The only time Pistol was gaggd

Just three questions:
1) Where the heck do you find a tapegag in the middle ages?
2) Why didn't she just pull it off?
3) Why Pistol and not Peg in the part of Maid Marian?

I suspect the scene was originally meant to have Peg and a keylocked muzzle instead of that. But they changed their mind 'cuz it was too off char for Peg to be muzzled by Pete and the censorship judged the iron muzzle too mean for a kid.
What? Do you think I think too much?
